Behind the Music:

  • Mercy Killing was originally written for a rock/metal group, however, the producer, Rio, loved the way Jada sang it, so he gave it to Jada.
  • When Jada was chosen to represent the song, they took the original track, and took it to an extremely dark place with the tone and lyrics.
  • The song ended up being a follow up to one of Jada’s earlier single, Indigo.

Song Lyrics:

Verse 1
Tried every bit of tenderness
You made it hard to break into you ooh
Nothing could ever please
Except to see your face on a cover magazine
Steppin’ on and over anyone or anything in your egotistic way
Tossed every broken promise in, pieces on the floor

Pre-Hook
Pity now you’re comin’ after me
To pick you up after your showbiz fall
I think this relationship is gonna need a mercy killing
To end it all

Hook
Mercy Mercy
Gonna wash your stain away, from my soul
Mercy mercy killing
Cleanse it all away

Verse 2
Kissed a bitter end goodbye
Iconic classic movie ending, you walked away
Did you think I’d miss a beat ahh
I had somebody else before you left LA
Stepped over anyone or anything
When truth and pain got in the way
Everything you touched in me
You turned to grey

Pre-Hook
Pity I returned your letter to the box
Probably wrote some heartless storm
Faded all the love I had to black
To end it mercy killing can’t be wrong

Hook
Mercy Mercy
Gonna wash your stain away, from my soul
Mercy mercy killing
Cleanse it all away

Bridge
Buried every memory of my pain with you
Is now decayed and scattered
I don’t need a requiem, no symphony of sadness
Playin’ what was

Hook (x2)
Mercy Mercy
Gonna wash your stain away, from my soul
Mercy mercy killing
Cleanse it all away
